I got the idea for this when I was living in Kyoto. I made a layered image out of ALOT of different images from the internet, and then added some photoshop paint to create this drawing idea of a little cos-play kitty baby obsessed with staying young and so wearing a cos-play dive suit designed to look like a little kitty… The idea is to eat mermaids which there are many Japanese legends about eating mermaids to gain immortality. The foreground is a cherry blossom sort of as an expression as the antithesis of permanence.
The foreground is a cherry blossom sort of as an expression of impermanence thus as the antithesis of permanence.
The “child” is made from a real picture of a Japanesee girl + cross a Yoshitomo Nara picture, some photoshop painting, the mermaid from a yokai woodblock print, cross the face of a Masami Teraoka picture, and the cherry blossom from a tattoo of a cherry blossom tree! + I added the Hokusai Wave in the background just to tie in the idea of the wave of an idea, or obsession and the calamity! The blowfish represent, “spirit fish” and a threat of poison. The Starfish on the beach represents the struggle for survival and the occurence of death.
See below for the original yokai woodblock and the Yoshitomo Nara original image.
